What is Therapeutic Massage?
Massage therapy manipulates the soft tissues of the body, including muscles, ligaments and tendons. It loosens cramped or locked muscles to relieve tension and pain and allows joints to move more freely.
Back pain, shoulders, necks, sciatica – massage improves circulation and works out knots and cramps. While pregnancy isn’t a “health problem”, it does take it’s toll on the body.
At Floating Shanti, we work with you to reduce discomfort, relieve pain and improve function. The relaxation and pampering is just a perk.
The health benefits of massage therapy are scientifically proven. Massage reduces stress hormones, stimulates the immune system, lowers blood pressure and increases serotonin/dopamine levels. We offer three types of massage to address physical and emotional stress.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage is exactly what it sounds like. The therapist applies sufficient pressure to reach deep into the muscle tissue down to a protective layer called the fascia. This type of massage can be helpful for people who struggle with chronic pain. Deep tissue massage is a therapeutic type of massage modality that helps relieve pain, reduce stress, and work on a specific problem. Deep tissue massage is great at breaking down scar tissue and getting your blood circulating. It however, can leave you sore the next few days.
” I had a wonderful and relaxing deep tissue massage. The store is very warm and welcoming! I look forward to going back soon! “ Rebecca Sixbey – Deep Tissue
Swedish massage is form you are probably most familiar with. The therapist works muscle groups with long strokes designed to encourage circulation and increase blood flow to the heart. Pressure is enough to knead and release muscle tissue, but less intense than a Deep Tissue massage.
” It was a one of a kind therapeutic experience that helped me disconnect from the chaos of every day life. “- Cecillia Cecillia – Swedish Massage
Prenatal massage is therapeutic bodywork that focuses on the special needs of the mother-to-be as her body goes through the dramatic changes of pregnancy. It enhances the function of muscles and joints, improves circulation and general body tone, and relieves mental and physical fatigue. It increases blood circulation, which provides more oxygen and nutrients to both mother and fetus and stimulates the lymph system, thereby increasing immunity and removal of toxins. It stabilizes hormonal levels and helps relieve depression or anxiety caused by hormonal changes. It soothes and relaxes the nervous system by releasing endorphins into the mother’s body.
